Napoli vs Palermo Preview

Monday, December 6, 2010
Palermo travel to Napoli trying to get over the disappointment of failing to progress in the Europa League.

Their fate was sealed when held on Thursday to a 2-2 draw at home to Sparta Prague.

With one match remaining, they have no chance of advancing.

"It's a pity because we played a good game against Sparta," said Palermo coach Delio Rossi.

"But we cannot end a game with nine men and expect to win.

"This should be a learning experience for us that we cannot make those mistakes.

"We hope we can do better in this competition next year and in order for that to happen, we need to do well in Serie A this season."

A victory tomorrow would see Palermo leapfrog Napoli in the standings.

Palermo are fifth in Serie A and Napoli fourth.

Last weekend's 3-1 win over Roma was Palermo's third consecutive league triumph.

"The game at Napoli will be another test for my players but if they show the same determination as they did against Roma there´s no reason why we cannot bring home three points," said Rossi.

Napoli fans, meanwhile, will have to wait until later this month to find out if their team will qualify for the next round of the Europa League.

The Partenopei were held to a 3-3 draw at FC Utrecht in midweek.

A win against Steaua Bucharest in their final group game on December 15 in Naples would mean Italy would still have a team in the competition as Juventus were also knocked out in their last game.

"We will concentrate on the final match against Steaua and hope we can give our fans a nice present," said Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri, whose side lost 3-1 at Udinese last weekend.
