Chievo vs Roma Match Preview

Friday, December 3, 2010
Roma will be looking to bounce back from last week's bitter defeat to Palermo by clinching a triumph at Chievo.
Roma coach Claudio Ranieri is convinced his team has every reason to remain positive despite Sunday's debacle. The Giallorossi boss watched his side go down 3-1 at the hands of Palermo, a result that shattered Roma's seven-game unbeaten run.
The defeat leaves Roma in seventh position, eight points adrift of Serie A leaders AC Milan 14 games into the season.
However, Ranieri is adamant his team will not give up their fight for the Scudetto.
"Had we won at Palermo, we could have sent out a strong message in the league," said Ranieri.
"But we were never able to get into the game and Palermo were superior to us.
"Fortunately, we don't always perform like we did against Palermo.
"As for our ambitions, we will not give up on the league title."
Rivals Chievo rested last weekend after their game at Bologna was called off due to adverse weather conditions. The men from Verona will look to pick up where they left off in their 2-1 win against Inter Milan when they host Roma.
Stefano Pioli's side warmed up for this weekend's clash with a midweek 3-0 victory over Novara in the fourth round of the Coppa Italia.
"We showed the right mentality," said Pioli.
"It was important for us to qualify for the next round of the Italian Cup and now we can focus our attention on this weekend's matchagainst Roma.
"It will be a difficult game but my players are ready."
Mid-table Chievo have lost just twice this season at the Stadio Bentegodi while Roma are desperate to collect only their second win on their travels.
The visitors will be without injured Simone Perrotta as well as defender John Arne Riise.
Riise sustained a muscular problem in training this week and will be out of action for 15 days.
